Current Industrial Reports U.S. Department of Commerce Economics and Statistical Administration Bureau of the Census IRON AND STEEL CASTINGS - ANNUAL 1996 MA33A(96)-1 Issued JUNE 26, 1997 Information on the scope of the survey, methodology, definition of terms and historical notes for this survey maybe found in the introduction of the 1994 Manufacturing Profiles, issued August 1996. Address inquiries concerning these data to U.S. Department of Commerce, Bureau of the Census, Manufacturing and Construction Division, Washington, D.C. 20233, or call Brenda F. Campbell, 301-457-1031. 301-457-1031. SUMMARY OF FINDINGS- In 1996, the total ferrous castings shipments were 11.9 million short tons, an 1 percent decrease from the 12.0 million short tons shipped in 1995. The shipments of ductile iron castings in 1996 were 4.2 million short tons, an 2 percent decrease from the 4.3 million shipped in 1995. Gray iron castings decreased 2 percent from 6.3 million short tons in 1995 to 6.2 million short tons in 1996. Shipments of malleable castings decreased 11 percent from the 292 thousand short tons in 1995 to 262 short tons shipped in 1996. Steel castings remained equal from 1.2 thousand short tons in 1995 to 1.2 thousand short tons in 1996. Steel investment castings decreased 4 percent in 1996 to 88.9 million pounds from 92.6 million pounds in 1995. SPECIAL NOTE - Number of companies has been eliminated because it was not a true representative of the number of companies reporting since each company was given a weight to represent the universe.
