Summary of Findings During 1996, the total value of shipments of selected instruments and related products totaled $67.3 billion, up 2 percent from the 1995 value of $65.7 billion. The 1996 figure includes automatic regulating, control, and solenoid valves, $2.4 billion, up 4 percent from 1995; search, detection, navigation, guidance, aeronautical, and nautical systems, instruments, and equipment, $25.8 billion, a decrease of 3 percent from 1995; laboratory apparatus and furniture, $1.9 billion, up 6 percent from 1995; controls for monitoring residential and commercial environments, and appliance regulating controls, $2.6 billion, up 4 percent from 1995; process control instruments, $6.8 billion, an increase of 6 percent from 1995; fluid meters and counting devices, $3.5 billion, virtually unchanged from 1995; instruments to measure electricity, $11.3 billion an increase of 10 percent from 1995; analytical and scientific instruments (except optical), $6.1 billion, an increase of 7 percent from 1995; optical instruments and lenses, $2.4 billion, an increase of 9 percent from 1995; measuring and controlling devices, n.e.c., $4.1 billion, an increase of 3 percent from 1995.
