Summary of Findings During 1996, the total value of shipments for communication equipment totaled $65.2 billion, an increase of 15.7 percent from the 1995 value of $56.4 billion. Shipments of telephone switching equipment totaled $9.8 billion, a 19.7 increase from the $8.2 billion shipped in 1995. Shipments of carrier line equipment and modems totaled $7.4 billion, an increase of 25.3 percent from the 1995 value of $5.9 billion. Other telephone and telegraph equipment shipped in 1996 totaled $14.4 billion, an increase of 36.7% from the $10.5 billion shipped in 1995. Communications systems and equipment shipped in 1996 totaled $24.4 billion, a 6% increase from the $23.0 billion shipped in 1995. Shipments of broadcast, studio, and related electronic equipment totaled $3.0 billion in 1996, a 7% increase from the $2.8 billion shipped in 1995. Alarm systems totaled $1.8 billion in 1996, a 9.7% increase from the $1.7 billion shipped in 1995. Table 1.
