CURRENT INDUSTRIAL REPORTS CONSUMER, SCIENTIFIC, TECHNICAL, AND INDUSTRIAL GLASSWARE MA32E ISSUED SEPTEMBER 1996 CONTACT PERSON: JOYCE POMEROY (301) 457-4840 SUMMARY OF FINDINGS - In 1995, total factory shipments of consumer, scientific, technical, and industrial glassware amounted to $5,000.2 million, an increase of 7 percent from the $4,690.5 million reported in 1994. Establishments manufacturing glassware from glass produced in the same establishment accounted for approximately 69 percent of the total glassware shipments. Consumer (table, kitchen, art, and novelty) glassware accounted for approximately 37 percent of the total glassware shipments and showed a 5 percent increase for the 1995 shipments of $1,827.2 million from the 1994 level of $1,747 million. SCOPE OF SURVEY - The statistics in this publication were collected from establishments engaged in manufacturing glass and glassware products. It includes establishments manufacturing glassware from glass produced in the same establishment as well as establishments manufacturing glass products from purchased glass. SURVEY METHODOLOGY - Figures for the current year may include estimates for reports not received in time for tabulation. Figures for missing reports are imputed based on year-to-year movement shown by reporting firms. REVISIONS - Data for prior periods may be revised due to corrected data from respondents, including data for reports received too late to include in the original publication. Figures revised by more than 5 percent are footnoted. OBTAINING REPORTS - This report is available electronically through the Census-BEA Electronic Bulletin Board.
