Telephone switching equipment totaled $8.1 billion, an increase of 12.5 percent from the 1993 value of $7.2 billion. Carrier line equipment and modems totaled $5.7 billion, an increase of 14 percent from the 1993 value of $5.0 billion. Other telephone and telegraph equipment totaled $8.7 billion, an increase of 24.3 percent from the 1993 value of $7.0 billion. Communications systems and equipment totaled $17.1 billion, an increase of 5.5 percent from the 1993 value of $16.2 billion. Broadcast, studio, and related electronic equipment totaled $2.6 billion, an increase of 23.8 percent from the 1993 value of $2.1 billion. Alarm systems totaled $1.6 billion, an increase of 6.6 percent from the 1993 value of $1.5 billion. Electronic teaching machines, teaching aids, trainers and simulators totaled $781.9 million, a decrease of 8.4 percent from the 1993 value of $847.7 million. Table 1.
