Circle 052: Daniel Berrigan and Janet Langhart, Revolution of Peace, February 2, 1988

Casually dressed, soft-spoken, and often spicing his responses with humor, Father Daniel Berrigan fielded thoughtful questions on a wide range of issues from the 52nd New England Circle audience in February.

Berrigan, a nationally known activist and Jesuit priest whose autobiography, "TO Dwell in Peace," has just been published, spoke of "a revolution that is perpetually underway. It is recognizably decent and pro-human, inclusive of human variety and beauty, and it is non-romantic in the sense it is willing to live and struggle and go forward with everything unfinished - and be at peace with that."

Moderator Janet Langhart asked Berrigan whether his several jail sentences for civil disobedience had increased his personal commitment to change. "As one young person said in the 60s, whether you are on the streets or in prison alongside extortionists and ex-DAs, you do your work," he replied.
