Circle 006: Edward Kennedy, The Kennedy View, November 4, 1975

The meeting of distinguished opinionmakers and prominent Bostonians hosted by The Brothers Dunfey has such a benign effect on my memory that I recall only a spectacular buffet and dinner, enfolded in a euphoria inhabited by faces notable for the pleasure registered upon them.

Ted Kennedy, the speaker, was at his rougish best, fielding questions and quips which recalled palmier days when good Boston Pols got together.

We got some solid political meat, as well in this banquet of backgrounders. All of us came away with a clearer understanding of the process.

But what survives best in the afterglow as I try to recall details of a glorious evening, is the camaraderie, the swift and bright exchanges of good talk across the table, talk of the kind that made one think of Dr. Johnson and his friends at The mermaid. Since that evening, I have felt a pervading enrichment of spirit and mind.
