Circle 019: U.S. Commissioners for Peace and Conflict Resolution, Peace Academy, June 1, 1980

Permanent URI for this collection

Tall ships from around the world sailed into Boston harbor on the first day of June to lend an international presence at the city's 350 birthday celebration; and, on the same day, members of the U.S. Commission on Proposals for the National Academy of Peace and Conflict Resolution met to hold public hearings on the nation's first Peace Academy. With Commissioner Jack Dunfey as host, other Peace Academy Commission members gathered for a reception in the Martin Luther King Room of the Parker House to meet each other and their guests before they began their two days of hearings in the city that has been the birthplace of national movements for more than three centuries.

The hearings will continue in other communities through the coming year as the Commission seeks diverse opinions on the desirability of establishing a federal commitment to a facility where the problems of conflict resolution can be studied.
