By utilizing primary sources such as Mourt’s Relation, Of Plymouth Plantation, and Good News From England this work seeks to create a new perspective of Squanto, the Patuxet native, and to also attribute the success of the Pilgrims to this one Native American. Secondary sources such as The Times of Their Lives by James Deetz and Changes in the Land by William Cronan are used to support points and arguments as well as to bring different approaches and ideologies to the table. Squanto has been a character in many historical works before, but rarely, if ever, has he been the focal point. This work covers the early life of Squanto where he would learn vital skills and also the time he spent with the Pilgrims. Creating a full and well-rounded historical portrayal of Squanto is a huge aim of this work.
