Abstract

New Hope Computers was developed through a partnership of Nicole Carbone, Eliot Yaffa and the United Teen Equality Center (UTEC). Under the leadership of UTEC, a computer refurbishment company will be operated by 10-20 at-risk young adults, ages 18-24. This project focuses on soft-skill and technical skill development. This development will take place in a series of workshops that focuses on every aspect a young adult will need to succeed in the computer repair industry. These workshops willinstill responsible living skills such as the skills needed to become a responsible employee. Special attention will also be placed on technical skills such as how to develop a business plan and financial literacy. At the end of this program we expect that the students will gain the business skills to be successful in future endeavors. (Author abstract)
