Abstract

What makes a place significant? There are many answers to this question. While one may say a place holds significance for being one's home or birthplace, another may say its significance lies in the place's cultural resources or architecture. The Hageman Barn and Farmyard is significant for its architectural construction, due to its design and lack of remaining barns in Potter County as well as how it portrays the history of agriculture within Potter County and South Dakota. The goal of the National Register project is to outline and convey the significance of a rural, historic barn, such as the Hageman Barn and Farmyard for eligibility to the National Register of Historic Places.
