Abstract

The Dust Bowl is known as one of the worst natural and man-made disasters in American History. The area known as the Great Plains suffered from ten years of drought and poor farming practices, which resulted in the dismasting of the land and demolishing peoples' hopes and dreams. Most scholarly work has been dedicated to the causes and effects of the Dust Bowl and the devastated farms. What has been left out of this historical reseach and literature are women's voices. Wives, mothers, and grandmothers suffered silently while keeping the family safe from the dangerous dust that covered every inch of their home.
