Abstract
Responses to the blight of inner cities in the aftermath of urban renewal often include community mobilization. These organizing efforts are often borne as a result of policies imposed by municipal governments that are under pressure to lessen the negative image of a neighborhood or city brought about by physical deterioration. This thesis traces one such effort undertaken in the South Ringgold Street area of Philadelphia. The manuscript provides a chronicle of this effort and offers guidance on how to develop collective action strategies within an urban, political, environment. (Library-derived description)
