MA35L -- INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINES 1992 (Table 7 revised) Contact person: Lynn Sizemore (301) 763-5547 INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINES Address inquiries concerning these figures to U.S. Department of Commerce, Bureau of the Census, Industry Division, Washington, D.C. 20233. Issued October 1993 U.S. Department of Commerce Economic and Statistics Administration BUREAU OF THE CENSUS SUMMARY OF FINDINGS In 1992, a total of 18,927,703 internal combustion engines (except outboard, nondiesel automotive and aircraft) were shipped or produced and incorported at the same plant, representing a 12-percent increase from the 16,791,296 produced in 1991. Gasoline or gas-gasoline engines totaled 18,298,632 in 1992, 12-percent above the figure of 16,219,592 for 1991. The number of nonautomotive diesel and dual-fuel engines produced in 1992 amounted to 177,266, a 10 percent decrease from the 184,245 reported in 1991. There were 451,102 automotive diesel engines produced in 1992, 18-percent more than 383,110 shown and pro- duced in 1991. Production of gas engines (LPG and natural) was 4,171 in 1992, 5-percent less than the 4,349 produced in 1991. A description of the survey methodology and related information appears on page 7.
